Srividya Angara was introduced to Kuchipudi at a tender age. For more than thirty years, her journey with the dance style has continued. For her, dance is happiness - a complete and most potent of manifestations of a joyous heart.

Srividya holds a Master’s degree in Performing Arts from the prestigious University of Hyderabad, and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and Technology majoring in Computer Science and Engineering from VNR Vignana Jyoti Institute of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad. Her career in the software industry as an Applications and Senior Applications Engineer has seen her work with some of the top IT companies of the world. Her love for the Kuchipudi dance form however saw her take to performance and choreography as her path forward. Srividya is currently a student of renowned Kuchipudi guru from Chennai Guru Jaikishore Mosalikanti, while her initial training was under Smt. Vijaya Valli Priya from Hyderabad.

While in the USA, she has had the distinction of being the very first Indian classical dancer to present her original choreographic work, “MEL” at the 27th Annual Choreographers’ Showcase at College Park, and at the Norristown Dance Festival in Philadelphia. MEL explored a well-known story from the ancient epic Mahabharata, where the Kuchipudi dynamic was set to the Western classical genius of Ludwig Van Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, a work that received much applause and appreciation.

Distinguished Performances and Tours

She has been invited to perform at prestigious National dance festivals like Khajuraho Nritya Samaroh and Idagunji Dance festival. Spring 2017 saw her touring the United States of America with her maiden collaboration “SAMAAGATI”, a jugalbandi that brought together two beautiful classical dance styles – Kuchipudi and Odissi. Her latest jugalbandi choreography is “MEENAKSHI”, featuring the glory of the Warrior-Goddess of Madurai, where she has choreographed and presented the Kuchipudi component. “MANOMANTHANA”, an exquisite Kuchipudi Ekahaarya or solo thematic dance production that is based exclusively on saint-poet Thyagaraja’s kritis, and interwoven with original English prose and poetry is yet another work that has received numerous accolades and generous media coverage.

Promotion of the art form

In order to pass on her passion for the Kuchipudi dynamic to youngsters and adults alike, she has founded CITSABHA (pronounced CHI-TH-SA-BHA) Centre for Kuchipudi and Allied Arts, and has also co-founded CITSABHA COLLECTIVE, a not-for-profit trust set up for the promotion of Indian classical art forms.

Unafraid of experimenting with traditional kinetics and new music, and yet revering the age-old Kuchipudi movement, Srividya Angara blazes her own trail with her own unique brand of energy and style
